YOU ARE CLAY IN THE POTTER'S HAND

"As the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand." Jeremiah 18:6 NKJV

During a prayer meeting one night, an elderly woman pleaded with God, "it really doesn't matter what You do with us, Lord; just have Your way in our lives." Adelaide Pollard, a well-known itinerant Bible teacher, overheard her prayer. At the time, she was deeply discouraged because she had been unable to raise the support she needed to go to Africa for a missionary service. She was moved by this woman's sincere request of God, and when she went home that evening, she meditated on these words from Scripture: "Then I went down to the potter's house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying...'As the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand'" (Jer 18:3-6 NKJV). Before retiring that night, Adelaide took pen in hand and wrote a prayer that has become a well-known hymn: "Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Thou art the potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after They will, while I am waiting, yielded and still. Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Search me and try me, Master, today! Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now, as in Thy presence humbly I bow." Whatever you may belong through right now, remember that you are clay in the potter's hand.
